Reality Of Bird Strikes - Joeflyer - 30-01-2009 These pics were taken last Saturday on what happens to a helo when birds attack. "Saturday evening Baptist Med-Flight departed Memphis enroute back to Little Rock without a patient. Med Flight struck a flock of birds around the Forrest City area and made an emergency landing. The pilot suffered some minor injuries and everyone was shaken up. Attached are the pictures from the incident and the associated damages that occurred to their aircraft. Med-Flight does not wear helmets and the crew is lucky the pilot's vision remained intact to land the aircraft." #1 ![]() #2 ![]() #3 ![]() #4...hmmm, you think the crew possibly killed some time waiting on emergency equipment? ![]() #5 ![]() Re: Reality Of Bird Strikes - relichd - 30-01-2009 I hope the blood in the heli is of the birds, not the pilot... ![]() Re: Reality Of Bird Strikes - Joeflyer - 30-01-2009 I venture to say it was the bird's ![]() Re: Reality Of Bird Strikes - relichd - 30-01-2009 You never know - when a flying man meets flying birds ![]() Anyway, I'm glad nobody was seriously hurt. Except for those birds, of course ![]() Re: Reality Of Bird Strikes - Goose - 30-01-2009 Wow, thats simply brutal. Did he hit a whole damn flock? I can't get over the bird still hanging from the front lol. Im definitely glad they made it down safe though. That pilot deserves a cookie! ![]() Re: Reality Of Bird Strikes - SkyAirWorld - 31-01-2009 Love that the helicopter is "parked" out the front of a porn shop.... ![]() ![]() Good job jetting that ugly thing back down ![]() Google the RAAF F-111 that went into a flock of pelicans Re: Reality Of Bird Strikes - timtomairways - 14-02-2009 nice parking spot, wonder what the perves inside thought when they saw a chooper landing with a few unplaned and late passengers trying to get on Re: Reality Of Bird Strikes - DSW334 - 14-02-2009 Well. if you have to land somewhere, you better land near an adult shop ![]() Re: Reality Of Bird Strikes - marineman227 - 12-03-2009 Sorry I know this is old but that's some crazy damage for a chopper. I would've thought the wind from the blades would be strong enough to push birds down and under a chopper but that's what I get for thinking. P.S. I'm in a way glad all these bird strikes are being publicized so much now. I work ARFF and public safety at the regional airport in the area. Part of our duties is removing any animal (except bald eagles) that comes on the airport. We used to get people griping all the time about us shooting the seagulls but haven't had a single complaint about us shooting the coyotes and deer lately, no birds just yet but the season is coming that they'll all be passing through on their way north. Re: Reality Of Bird Strikes - Joeflyer - 13-03-2009 I'm no whirly bird pilot, but aren't the angles of the blades at a certain angle as to provide forward momentum of the helo? If the birds are traveling at X rate of speed, helo at Y rate, the resulting combined speed would result in a BOOM. Now, if the helo was in a hover, different story ![]() Re: Reality Of Bird Strikes - marineman227 - 25-03-2009 Sorry to drag this old girl up again but just had one at work the other day. At the end I'll post a link to the news article but a medical chopper with a patient on board struck a seagull, diverted to the airport I work at (about 5 miles with no windshield). I wasn't on duty at the time so I didn't get any better pics of the chopper but apparently they can hit birds and do so often. http://www.fox11online.com/dpp/news/local_wluk_greenville_eagle_three_bird_strike_200903191536_rev1 Re: Reality Of Bird Strikes - Cydon Prax - 25-03-2009 Had a nice bird-scout adventure two weeks ago. Came within 500 ft of a bald eagle coming into Bravo Airspace. Or two, I'm not sure. Largest bird I've ever seen at 5,000 ft. On final approach at about 200ft, with my video camera out, we clipped a small bird on the prop. Ofcourse I wasn't holding the camera out the window at the time so I didn't get the shot. No damage to the aircraft, ofcourse. Birds are everywhere; technically we're in their territory. The problem is that they are practically impossible to dodge without hitting 3 G's. Re: Reality Of Bird Strikes - poden - 25-03-2009 Yeow, that's some bad damage! I like the way you said "when birds attack". Although they surely don't want to get hit, it sure seems like they're attacking! Funny how so many people commented on the adult shop nearby! Re: Reality Of Bird Strikes - the_nick - 25-03-2009 maybe the person who made the photo's was on his way to the XXX shop when he saw the heli landing due to a bird strike , how big is the chance that you know that on that spot is a heli going to land in the middle of some kind desert. someone is busted |
