Sid/Star Procedures - Sam Breese - 16-03-2006

I've just about learned to fly aircraft on the sim using the FMC in aircraft. The only thing I can't get my head round is these sid/star
procedures. I know what they do but I cannot seem to be able to incorporate them into my flight.

For example

If I am flying to Gatwick on a pre-planned flight where the flight is being controlled by the aoutopilot using the FMC. I tune the ATIS and
when I am in range I learn the runway in use is Rwy 8R. I select the runway in the FMC and then a list of Star's apperar.

How do I know which1 to choose?

I chose 1 once and it took me right round the airport adding about 30mins to the flight!!

That wasn't so good.

Normal is it the ATC who tells you which STAR you should use. But the default can't Sad

For example

Normal i first check the wind's and chose a runway and plan my aircraft to landing. If i come from Gatwick and should land at RWY 7R in
Frankfurt and i come from RUDUS then i chose RUDUS1T in my FMC i press that and fly down and land... If i can't find anything example:
I come from RUDUS but can't find something with RUDUS in my FMC then i just click at ILS7R and bring my aircraft to landing.Wink

Hello,

I dont know if this might help you: http://www.fscharts.com - but anyway here you can find a complete overview about runways ++

I use the info from here in my flights, because I often need to have some drawings and tech info about the airports i travel to. Each chart includes all of the runways, headings and frequencies for the selected airport

WBHoenig, but how do you choose the runway you want to land in that link?
