gps/autopilot - hughie503 - 05-09-2005 so how exactly do i get gps and autopilot to work together to fly to my waypoints and destination without me having to be there? Re: gps/autopilot - lightrail - 05-09-2005 Depends on your plane. You should have a switch on the 2D panel that says NAV/GPS - guess what you do with this switch? Flip it to GPS Then you press NAV on the autopilot and the autopilot will now follow the GPS course But, if using ILS to land, don't forget to switch the NAV/GPS button back to NAV first, otherwise your ILS will not work. Re: gps/autopilot - omarza - 05-09-2005 Ok this is just in short and I might have missed something as I dont fly GPS lately... I either use FMC or on older aircraft VOR/ADF etc... but here goes... If its one of the standard aircraft in FS... Keep in mind there are other ways as well... im not using right terms as well to try and keep it simple... 1) Set up flightplan in FS before going into flight 2) Start flight... flightplan should be automatically loaded into GPS by FS 3) Climb to cruising altitiude 4) Check on the dash... there should be a switch that can flip between NAV and GPS... usually the default is NAV... select GPS 5) Switch on the Autopilot 6) Press ALT for altitude hold (Make sure your cruising altitude is entered in the altitude box on the panel... its the one that usually displays 10000) 7) Press NAV for automatic navigation... and since you selected GPS on the other switch (step 4) the Autopilot will use the GPS for navigation. 8) Sit back and relax Note that you can of course even climb using autopilot etc but I thought to just mention the basics above for the basic aircraft in FS. What happened is you pressed it to late and overshot the first waypoint so the plane doubled back to reach it Re: gps/autopilot - SWAFO - 06-09-2005 Also, reading instructions might help. You'd be suprised at how well they explain lots of things! Re: gps/autopilot - Mountie - 06-09-2005 nasty... sometimes common non pilots can explain easier... Instructions seem to be written for more than begginers... I haven't figured out how to do this on the older GPS yet. |
