Got FSX Today, and delved into it a bit. - clodhoppers18 - 14-10-2006

Hey,

I got FSX today, and flew a little (I am going to need a PC upgrade) and decided to delve into the depths of it.

I found a program/editor called Microsoft Aces Editor. I have no clue what it does, but it shows strings and things that are in the XML files which
are placed throught the FSX root folder.

The aircraft folder is located in %fsxroot%\simobjects\aircraft which also contains the folders for animals, people, ground vehicles, and boats.

Inside the texture folders of the aircraft folders, there are these .dds files, which judging from what i can find on the internet this is a direct
draw surface used to provide a very high compression of the texture files. How you edit them i dont know, but i wonder, does all aircraft have to have
those as the textures, or can we use the FS9 textures.

Has anyone tried to add a FS9 aircraft to FSX?

Dustin

well i didnt have the best computer in the first place.

P4 w/HT 2.4Ghz
512MB RAM
nVidia Geforce4 MX440 AGP8X with 128MB VRAM

I currently have everything and medium low, however when I let FSX decide what to put it on, it made everything low, which of course made everything
look like crap.

What kind of FPS do you get with everything maxed out?

06? That is way too low! Anyone have an idea what FPS I would get with a 3.2GHz Pentium 4 processor, and 1GB of RAM?

Depends heavily on your FSP, speed of ram, and mostly on your video card and sound card (yes your sound card affects FPS)

How low will the FSP rate then be with complex aircrafts like LDS or PMDG and some addon airport sceneries? 4? 3? 2? lol

Anything above 25 fps won´t be really recognised by your eyes - doesn´t matter whether you put it to 30 or even 100.
