I went to world-map in the demo and entered in 99999999 in the altitude box!

Maybe the next version of Flight Simulator will have the return of true rocket simulation and the introduction of space flight physics.

It was said there was going to be NO rockets in FSX demo, whats the point of adding space without a rocket...Rolleyes

Because micro$oft expects all the add-on guys to do there work for them.
I love the talented add-on designers.
I wouldnt have a clue how to do it and they make FS soooooooooo much better.

Re: 99999999 feet-NO JOKE! - Zatnikitelman - 13-08-2006

I hope they don't introduce space physics. That would put FSX into direct competition with the excellent freeware Orbiter.

That could be the worst logic I've ever heard.

Why is that?

Re: 99999999 feet-NO JOKE! - alphaone - 13-08-2006

Competition is a good thing. Economics 101. Competition makes everything better. Plus I really don't like Orbiter that much. It is not very user
friendly and is seriously lacking many things (although it's space physics are pretty much perfect).

But Orbiter is freeware economicss nonwithstanding and which is the last Orbiter version you tried?

Re: 99999999 feet-NO JOKE! - alphaone - 13-08-2006

The latest one, 2006 edition. No moving control surfaces on the space shuttle. Poor re-entry simulation. Graphics bugs. Incomplete manuals.
Ugh... Not a pretty sight.

Re: 99999999 feet-NO JOKE! - Zatnikitelman - 14-08-2006

Then obviously you didn't want to even try. If you DL the 3.9v shuttles then it will add moving control surfaces, and the default Atlantis does
have them. The poor reentry is only on the default Delta Glider and is a minor bug soon to be fixed. There are no graphics bugs, you just
have to set the settings right. And the manuals are fully complete.

Re: 99999999 feet-NO JOKE! - alphaone - 14-08-2006

If I have to mess with it that much just to get it working the way it should to begin with then there's a problem. How can you call the manual's
complete when it doesn't even include procedures for proper re-entry using the shuttle? And what about the fact that you have to fly the shuttle manually from launch? That's not right... And I did want to try. I tried for a few weeks before I gave
up. I downloaded lots of addons in an attempt to make it better, but it just didn't grab me. It was too hard to find the instructions that I needed.
It is a very good freeware program though.

As for the graphics bugs, what about the bug where when you alt tab out and back in your textures are corrupted? Or when you fire the thrusters you
get a little blue box around the thruster burst?

Re: 99999999 feet-NO JOKE! - Zatnikitelman - 14-08-2006

Blue box around the thrusters? Your graphics must really stink, it should appear as a small blue triangle. And yes, if you actually look in
the manual, it does tell how to fly the shuttle. When you alt-tab out and come back in, the same happens to just about every other
program I own, it's not just Orbiter.

Re: 99999999 feet-NO JOKE! - alphaone - 14-08-2006

For your information I have a pretty top of the line computer, brand new in fact. I do see the triangle, but there is a blue box around the triangle
formed by the sprite not rendering correctly. And sure it tells you how to fly the shuttle, just not how to correctly de orbit or re-enter. Plus you
shouldn't have to fly the shuttle until you get into orbit, as I said before. I don't have any problems with alt tabbing with any other program I
use. Works fine. The alt tab issue with orbiter makes it doubly annoying when you're trying to flip back and forth between the manual to actually
attempt to learn the thing. I don't want to play something that I'm not going to have fun with thank you very much. I know that the FS team can make
a complete flight simulation (inside the atmosphere or out) that will be fun to play and learn.

You act like I'm attacking you. I'm just stating a perspective.
