Re: Is FSP Dead? - mastertheknife - 01-10-2006 Hi Ruaim, Me and a friend have the same problem.. the FS menu can fully disappear or just the basic menus.. it is extremely rare(I only had it once, but a friend of mine have it a lot more frequently) It only happens in windowed mode and usually only if you landed.. e.g. fly somewhere, land and then fly again We've found the problem is not FSP though, but it is the PMDG. As long as the PMDG 747 is installed, no matter what aircraft we will be using(even ms 737), its there, after some time the menu is gone, FS crashes. In some cases we had to restart our computers cause FS just won't close. It's a PMDG problem but it seems PMDG won't help us. There is a thread in the PMDG support forum in avsim by Chris E (Sorry i can't find the thread but thats his name) Seems to happen with PMDG 737 too, not just the 747. Anyway, its not related to video card cause a friend of mine had both ATI and Nvidia video cards. I've only had it once but a friend of mine has it a lot more frequently, here is a screenshot of my basic FS meus disappear while fooling around with ms 737 after landing with it in LLBG, and few seconds after i took that screenshot i was unable to close FS and then it crashed: http://img437.imageshack.us/img437/3701/wtfnomenuscj7.jpg Post Edited ( 10-01-06 15:22 ) Re: Is FSP Dead? - SaVas - 01-10-2006 Quote:Ruaim wrote: FSP for this person, being me, is not dead. I dont fly in the sim without it. As for the community, its not dead either. Granted I used to be a prolific poster on the forum, but a new job several months ago, and working hours that would make skin crawl (15+ hours a day sometimes 6 days a week) means little to no time to post. I do float by from time to time, and see many new names as well as the veterans, so dead, it is not, however making statements like "defend something that pays them nothing", "FSP is dead", and regarding the community as dead doesnt win many friends, or offers for help. Quote:On the subject of bugs, the biggest bug I have, the one that tops the lot - is the disappearing FSP from the task bar and self Ive had FsP since its release, and honestly, FsP has never disappeared from my task bar. It has also never self aborted. Granted my sim has self aborted, but normally this is user error and installing things over other addons that dont work together. Quote:But I haven’t pushed this fact since it has been mentioned before by others and no solution has been suggested. And unfortunately since neither has ever happened to me, I cannot recommend any fixes or ideas. Wish I could. Quote:I don't have a buggy computer as has been claimed. Read my post - I am a software and game reviewer as well as a web I dont doubt your abilities, but why would yours mess up and not mine? Our flight sims are like people. None are built the same way, none are identical (sans twins, triplets, etc and even they have differences), and so our computers are different as well. Quote:Again, thanks moderators, so much for the support in this forum - is anyone going to actually answer the question I originally posed? Read my response about calling the program dead, and the community of helpful people the same....vinegar attracts no bees. Quote:- I will rephrase it: Has FSP for FS2k4 been left on the sidelines? Couldnt answer that one either, but FS9 is, well, basically drying up. Most developers are in a rush to release what is FS9 compatible, and are working now on products for FSX. If Dan is working on FSX instead of FS9, I for one dont mind. In due course FS9 will be replaced with the next gen simulator. So in essence, let me ask this...what have you done to try to fix the problems you have had? Does the sim crash at all without FsP running? How long does it take for FSP to crash (rough estimated time frame) . Are you trying the same flight? Maybe try a different time of the day over a different continent as a test, using a test company. ETC. The more info you can give us, the bette we might be able to help. Re: Is FSP Dead? - DanSteph - 02-10-2006 Hello All, It's very hard to clear a "bug" that appear only on a few machine, I never had any disappearing menu nor most of user had this problem nor did I receive mail about such bug. The problem is with the wide variety of configuration I'm sure you can even find some computer where notepad don't run even it's a simple editor. So appart if you send me your computer so I can directly see what happen I can't do anything. I'm unable to reproduce this bug and so I'm unable to see why your configuration have this problem. Probably also it have something to do with driver, or some hardware. From most user of FsP FsP run very well, is very stable and have a very low list of bug. I was very suprised with the FsX announce to see that FsP still sell, far not what it was a the start but still it sale everyday and I still receive a huge amount of mail about it and there is still people doing addon for it. (I know because I must aknowledge each upload) So no, the FsP is not dead nor the community is. About the futur. I just installed the latest version of Visual C++, I must first make my hand on it once done I'll see what can be done with FsX and work for a latest update for FsP 2004. (I don't know much what to do in regard of bug because my list is almost empty appart those mentionned and that have more to do with a configuration but there is a long list of request) This said I need a lot of time for coding, during such period I usually wake up at 11am code all the day until 5 am the day after then I sleep 6 hours. I stop coding just to eat answer mails and go walk with my dog. This explain why I'm not so often on the forum. The only stipulation is this: you need Windows XP Professional SP2 (sorry not Home Edition), then users can add a '/3GB' switch to their Boot.ini file to force their PCs to allocate up to 3GB to programs. That's what i have done - Greetz Carsten - thanks for the Google advice though! Post Edited ( 10-03-06 23:40 ) Re: Is FSP Dead? - Ruaim - 03-10-2006 Dan is right - as usual!!! It was a faulty installation of Ultimate Traffic that was causing my unusual problem! I now have a fresh, shiny installation of FS 2004 with no clutter - and only the best add-ons (FSP included!). Thanks guys, I didn't really mean what I said - I take it all back! PS. Thanks for quoting my review on your buy FSP page!
