Old is stable, and stable is better ![]() Cheers, FPB Re: Dual Monitor support - VegasFlyBy - 30-07-2005 Hey Psolk, Any reason I'd get a frame rate drop when I move the radio stack, GPS, etc over to the second screen and then disable windowed mode? When I keep it in windowed mode there is no drop, but I really don't like the look of windowed mode at all ![]() thanks, Erik Re: Dual Monitor support - psolk - 30-07-2005 Vegas, Unfortunately yes. The processing power required to drive two monitors full screen in FS should essentially cut frame rates in half. I forget about it somtimes when my FPS drops and then I remember to shut down all those open windows on the second monitor when I need my FPS to jump back up. But yes, even with my machine, running the dual monitors full screen takes a real toll. Check out this article, it is a bit outdated but pretty spot on, -Paul http://graphics.tomshardware.com/graphic/20040216/index.html Self Built Liquid Cooled Asus K8vSE- Deluxe Amd 64 3400 2 gigs Kingston HyperX DDR 400 GE Force 6800GT Dual Sata Maxtor 120 gig HD's in Raid-0 Dual Samsung 997 DF Monitors SB Audigy2ZS Re: Dual Monitor support - VegasFlyBy - 30-07-2005 Thanks for the reference. I've got a top of the line system and it brings a tear to me eye when when my frame rate goes down ![]() I'll just have to shut the windows down, too, when I need the performance boost. Re: Dual Monitor support - psolk - 30-07-2005 Yeah, I feel your pain, every once in a while I will go into my video card and disable the second monitor just to see the difference and it is amazing... I guess the next step is dual 7800GTX cards each powering their own monitor ![]() now, if I can stay at 24 FPS with both monitors, I am happy. The first thing I do when I start to see the FPS drop if I need the windows on the second monitor is to kill my AI. Bring it down to 20% on landing and it will alwys be smooth. Fluiditiy is the most important thing in this sim in my opinion so if I give up some eye candy to get it, big deal... I will gladly give up some AI to have the dual monitor setup anyday... You will see though, it is a compromise and you find the balance that is right for your machine and when you do it is a little piece of heaven. -Paul Re: Dual Monitor support - VegasFlyBy - 30-07-2005 I was going to keep my older video card (ATI Radion 124MB) for the other monitor but I only have one PCI Express in my computer. Oh well...anyone want to buy a slightly used video card LOL. |
