Re: Welcome on FsPassengers new forum - Magician - 11-03-2005

Dan,

Awesome work. Well done and the best of luck!

I agree with Fruitfly about the death of FSMaintenance and I for one eagerly await something new that breaks up the boredom that FS can
cause (for me anyway Wink ) And of course FsPassengers looks like it's gonna give us soooo much more!

Awaiting the demo with much excitement!

All the best

Good work DAN! I look forward to having this!

Re: Welcome on FsPassengers new forum - freespace2dotcom - 14-04-2005

for those who don't know me, I'm freespace2dotcom, of dan's other forum, for orbiter. I'll be lurking around here now as I'm interested
in this, so I look around and....

Ouhlala! Smile

boy, all it takes is a couple of pretty pictures, and already I forget how much it's going to cost.

I'm just going to have to get it now.

Yes, well, that's YOUR fault for not keeping the post counts together between the two forums. Smile

we both know that they're both virtually identical, anyways. I was half-expecting that you would, actually.

Now all the people here are going to think I'm just some hobo looking for attention. Wink

And that's only half-true. Smile

Beg your pardon Sir, I had to rework the forum code to include it here...so it's NOT --identical-- Smile
I bet making your way until "Living Legend" rank will be more difficult, there is no GUPT allowed here Wink

Re: Welcome on FsPassengers new forum - freespace2dotcom - 15-04-2005

I never said it was completely identical. I only wished to imply that they look identical, and they do, with the exception of a bit of coloring. Though by what you said, it sounds like the only thing you changed the references. SmileSmileSmile

instead of the script referring to something on dansteph.com, it refers to fspassengers.com now, am I right. Wink

okay, I'm done teasing you. anyways, If I recall, the GUPT series was created by someone other than me, so you can't pin the blame on me. Smile

Are you trying to imply though, that I wouldn't be a living legend in the orbiter forum right now, if not for the gupt, that over some 1700 of my posts are in there. Pardon me sir, but I disagree. Smile

Re: Welcome on FsPassengers new forum - Rob F - 05-05-2005

Dan,
This looks like it's going to be the best add on of the year! Great work.

This is just an idea for when you're done FsP but you could improve this add on further by creating a version for Virtual Airlines where the
pilots can connect with the VA version and upload their stats, progress and other information that the original program captures. Just an
idea for the future. Good luck with this venture, I know you'll be successful and like everyone else here, I can't wait to see the finished
version.

Rob

Re: Welcome on FsPassengers new forum - DanSteph - 05-05-2005

Thanks for kind word Rob,

In fact VA export/import of pilots and company was planned during a long time,
I planned to allow pilot to share the same database via a website, finally I started to
do it and it was really a pain with the compressing and coding of database
and export/import function... it had to be solid, consistant, secured etc etc.
Imagine keeping Syncronysed a database that is shared on 200 or more PC.

In brief it was a pain to do... finally I discuted with a president of one VA that has
good argument to not use such feature, that plus the fact that it would have taken
me two or three more month to do resulted that I let it drop...

Also I don't believe a lot of VA would use such system, perhaps 500 people
at a big maximum... so it was clearly a useless feature...

Anyway another one came with a new idea lately: the simple export of pilot flights data
directly into a website with a SQL database.

As I love PHP/SQL programming and this idea would be really cool for me to do
I think that I will at least do this after the first release (taken that somes more peoples
ask it of course)

It would be a PHP/SQL module to install on a site with a sql database friendly for the admin
and friendly for the user, the site will then be able to display several table with flight results, statistics etc etc.
The pilot role would only be to click on the menu "export data to VA" from time to time...
nothing to synchronise and I have already my idea how I would do this...
Also any admin with a minimum of skill would be able to extract himself the data from the SQL
base and present them as he want.

That could be cool for VA... Realistic and complete flight data that don't relly on manual entry,
no secure problem, no risk of loosing anything and simple to maintain for the VA.

Re: Welcome on FsPassengers new forum - Rob F - 05-05-2005

It's good to see that you're thinking ahead. I'm pretty sure that's what led to the demise of similar software and now with IVAO and
Vatsim playing a huge role in flight simulation, I think you'll find FsP as an integral part of online simming as you'd see some of the
popular weather programs and other software applications that are designed to make the experience "as real as it gets". Keep
progressing as the community does and we'll see you around for a long time. Great work and look forward to seeing FsP.

Rob

Re: Welcome on FsPassengers new forum - DanSteph - 05-05-2005

I never let drop community and my soft, I maintain also since three years my freeware Orbiter add-on
(a free space flight simulator) that you can see here: http://orbiter.dansteph.com

And I lost one month in january working on them because a new version of Orbiter was out...
one must say that without my add-on Orbiter have no sound at all, this is why I upgraded it. (19000 download so far in four month)

So I hope FsP income will allow me to continue to work on it... (I can't live from water and love only Smile

Uh, I don't think I'd be TOO concerned about that, Dan! This will only be the BEST add-on other than an aircraft, that MSFS's had in five years.
